When in Bloomington-Normal…eat some Avanti’s!
Avanti’s is a pizza place in Bloomington-Normal which has been around for over 50 years. It’s fed thousands of hungry college students, but it begs the question. Is it actually good?
It’s seemingly a staple of the Bloomington-Normal community. My mother attended the hallowed grounds of Illinois State, and she has only good things to say about the bread they serve. But what about the rest of the menu items? That’s what I plan to find out.
I’m going to try every single menu item that Avanti’s has to offer, and I’m going to definitively decide if the place is actually good or not. I’m going in unbiased as possible, but I have had some pretty mediocre to bad experiences with Avanti’s. I fondly remember eating the most dry, low-effort Italian sausage and beef combo as I waited to get the results at IHSA Journalism State.
I didn’t finish the sandwich, and I was left with an anxious, hungry stomach. However, I also had a pretty decent catered deli sandwich from them as well. My experiences have been mixed, and this review series will hopefully shed some light on which of these experiences is closer to the truth.
I’m planning to release one article a week. I think I might start with side orders and then work my way up to pizza and other entrees, but I haven’t totally decided. Either way, you can expect some Avanti’s content this week, most likely on Saturday.
I hope you follow along on my journey through one of Bloomington-Normal’s most storied pizza places!
